Riley’s Bio

Hometown: Walnut Creek, CA

Current: Pleasant Hill, CA

Position: Team Lead, Senior Consultant

Meet Riley, one of Jones IT’s Team Leads and Senior Consultants! He has the ability to talk to anyone about anything, and that just speaks to the wealth of knowledge he possesses! Like many of our team members, he first fell in love with IT by helping his family and friends growing up. He also loves being able to learn new perspectives, so if you ever get the opportunity to chat with him, be ready for some stimulating convo!

Q: What interests you most about IT?

A: I started by building computers for gaming, you know enthusiast-grade. I just love getting to know how my hobbies really work, the ins and outs, tinkering around with it all. I was also just the go-to IT person for my family. From finding the best solutions to problems to understanding the motivations of each individual on my team, I look at IT as an opportunity for excellence.

Q: What is your favorite work memory from Jones IT?

A: I can’t narrow it down to one specific memory. I just love when there are like 3 or 4 of us in a conference room, we’ve all got our preferred drinks, and we dig in on problem-solving. Being in the zone together, getting things done, that’s the best. I really get to experience our teamwork and our community.

Q: What is one of your favorite things/ passions outside of work?

A: I love teaching people how to play games. Well, teaching just in general. Making tutorials, guides. Having great conversations, debating, and feeling my perspective change is also something I love doing!

Q: Any advice for aspiring IT consultants?

A: Believe in your own ability to learn. Once you internalize it, you’ll be able to do it. Figure out your process for learning and then continue refining. You can then learn anything.

Q: Best advice for start-ups/small businesses looking to improve their current IT setup?

A: Plan ahead by implementing small steps. Focus on creating a foundation you can build on. Start to create some policies that will scale with you, little things like password policies. These are often too small and get overlooked, but they will be essential as you grow.
